History of 321 Divisadero
The Yoga Loft is a special place, rich in history. The building itself is considered an historical landmark, as it survived the 1906 earthquake and was subsequently used as a town meeting hall and ballroom dance space- later to become home for a great array of artists and dancers.. Sometimes (call us crazy) the walls and the floors really do hold a proud sense about all the amazing moments of San FranciscoÕs artistic and expressive counterculture that were invoked here during the 60Õs. In 1955, revolutionary, avant-garde dancer, Anna Halprin, founded the groundbreaking San Francisco Dancer's Workshop in Studio B. To read an incredible article about AnnaÕs evolving art and work as an elder in Bay Area community, click here.

We were also pleased to find out that the book The San Francisco Tape Center, edited by D.W. Bernstein, was recently released to tell the story of the influential group of musicians who worked in both studios, founding The San Francisco Tape Center at 321 Divisadero Street, during the 60Õs to create rich, collaborative, and legendary art.
